Attention East Petersburg Water Customers,                                                                  10/18/2024

The East Petersburg Borough Water Department was notified by Pennsylvania DEP that the City of Lancaster has exceeded the maximum contaminant level (MCL) for PFOA during 3rd quarter sampling. The borough received this notification because our water system has an interconnection with the City of Lancaster’s water system.

The borough uses the interconnect as an auxiliary source of water during maintenance and emergency situations. During normal operations, the town’s water is supplied from the boroughs two water facilities.

We have been instructed by DEP to perform additional water quality testing at the interconnection entry point.

Test results for PFAS compounds (PFOA and PFOS) sampled at the boroughs two water facilities have been under the MCL thresholds.

We will provide updates as more information becomes available.
